So Busy

I’ve come to the conclusion that farmers and bike shop owners are the same. I have kinda been both in my life so far. We both complain about the weather: too hot, too cold, to much rain, not enough rain. Also we complain when its so slow and now when its so busy.

But in all shop owners defence its never a happy medium. Being a bike store in Wisconsin in winter has its slow rough patches. And we complain. Now, in June, the store’s tech shop is out into next week and thats just as stressful. You just have to roll up your sleeves and go.. One bike at a time. Its either 5 mph or 100 mph. No inbetween.

I did have a pretty good riding weekend. 32 miles on the road bike on Saturday. I brought in extra help in the store so I could have a easy weekend.

Taking a break.

Its pretty much been game on since late March for me. I was only in store Saturday two hours. That was nice. And sadly I think that 32 miles was my longest ride of the year. Remember my so called comeback two months ago? That went by the wayside pretty quick.

Sunday I had a very nice MTB ride. About a hour and a half in 90+ degrees. Still, it was a very nice ride. I climbed a little, went fast a little and rode slow a little. Almost crashed a little and stopped to take in the woods a little. But after that I headed home to take a nap in my air conditioned house. I did not come out much the rest of the day. It was even too hot to sit on the lawn mower to cut the grass. It was Father’s Day so I just did pretty much nothing.

All in all a great weekend. Looking forward Im going to try and get Long Ride Wednesday going again. I have new help in the store and she’s doing very well. That takes some load off of me and will let me get out more. I even have a few weekends in the works. More about them as they come to be.

One is set in stone. July 13 to 15 I will be in Cable for this ride. I missed it last year. I will be doing the shorter distance which is 21 miles of singletrack. Still a long ass ride for me. I already have my help lined up in the store. Barring any catastrophes I should be there.

I better get back to work. Besides the repairs I have a boat load of new bikes coming today….

Pending Weekend.

I really should ride this more.

Again I really have nothing. The store has been very busy and thats expected right after the kids get out of school for the summer. If your a bike store and dont have more work than you can handle you have a problem. However it just turns out I have a small break in the action tomorrow. I’ve got two employee who can work tomorrow, one is a new girl that is almost ready to work without me around. So tomorrow is kind of of a test. I was searching desperately for somewhere to go Sat\Sun.

Hayward is out of the question being just too far away for such a short stint. Marquette would work. Leave early Saturday, stay the nite, ride up to Sunday at noon and head home by 4pm. I was looking to camp to keep costs down and I just can’t find anything open. Even with the new campground now open up there. Besides, there is a 70% chance of rain there Sunday. Just not worth the chance of heading up there in a tent to get rained out. So I will pass.

I guess I’ll just try the group road ride Saturday morn. Maybe the entire thing as I most likely will get dropped at some point. I’ll prepare to ride home solo. Then stop in store just to see what’s up… and leave for home early.

Sunday I’ll look for some MTBing. Not sure where. Its going to be in the 90’s for temps so I won’t have a lot in me for that day. So a road trip is probably out. So all this means I have no idea what’s up this weekend.

Im in the store early and have new bikes to build and old ones to fix. I better get going. Have a great weekend.

Down and Out

IMG_20180613_091837_816

Today I had a nice commute to work. Well, not from home but the car shop as I am having four new tires put on. I need some road trips soon or Im going to explode and my car’s tires are bald. I’ve pretty much worked everyday since late March. Im trying to plan something. Not sure what yet but Marquette keeps coming to mind. Most likely solo. Most likely camping.

I dont talk a lot about personal stuff here but its been a tough last 3 days for me. We had to put down out family dog of 14 years. Im not doing so well. A little down and out. Time heals and Im just putting in my time here. That’s all I will say publicly.

The ride into work today helped. Just riding along with my thoughts helps. It’s such a nice day too. Warm and sun. I’ll need about 15 more rides like this before this is all over.

Honestly I dont know why I dont ride to work more. I really could. I guess most of the time I have a car full of stuff to bring. The Checkpoint is the perfect bike to commute for me. I get to cut thru a park, today taking the long way around the trails. I was thinking about putting a dropper post on this bike. How cool would that be. I do have

So I might just take this weekend out of town. At least gone one nite. This will be a good weekend to go solo for a nite.

That’s about all I have for mid week.

Small Road Trip

20180610_100736
Sunday road trip.

So I had a pretty good weekend. It was hard to not be bummed by all the Facebook\Instagram posts from Hayward. But I battled thru it.

Saturday I grabbed the road bike for the first time in forever and rode out to the group ride. It’s about a 20 minute ride from the store to the lot that they start in. I asked a bunch to join me and again I was solo. Thats getting old. I considered since I was alone I might just grab the Checkpoint but I really needed to ride the road bike just to make sure it didnt need anything. It was fine.

I left with the group of 12 bikes and we headed north, away from the store so I had to be mindful how far I rode to be back at the store by 10am. It was about 20 minutes and I was still with them. There are no hills in this direction for awhile so I was good. But flipped and headed back to store, getting there with just over 21 miles. I really need to start riding longer soon or another summer will pass me by. 20 miles at a crack won’t cut it.

After a normal day in the store Saturday I was thinking of what bike to bring home with me. Checkpoint or EX? Or both? I settled on the EX only. I really wanted to go MTBing.

Sunday I woke and had the day to myself. Should I ride the local trails? Or road trip? I loaded up the car and headed into town to get coffee. And it started drizzling a bit. I look at the radar and see no rain to the north so its north I start driving. There is a trail system a little over an hour I want to get to someday soon. But I forgot about this small trail system about 30 minutes away and that is where I headed to.

Nice trails with some wooden features to ride on. But its short, maybe just over a mile per lap. But nice and well kept. And fun.

It was a nice ride and Im glad I made the trip. It made missing the Hayward weekend a bit easier to take. I really like the bike. Its not a 29 plus but pretty close I guess. Much lighter than my Farely EX’s tho. But I will say this: When Trek comes out with the carbon suspension Stache I will be the first to get one. I love the bigger tires.

That’s it for the weekend. Now for the work week…..
