Wow. Not a post since Wednesday. And that means two things. The store is busy and I’ve been riding. In fact I rode every morning from Thursday to Sunday. And another great coffee visit to the park this morning to take it all in. I think this was the best riding weekend this summer. And you cant beat the weather. Sunny and 80’s for the last 5 days…
Thursdays ride was a doozy for me. 50 miles. It’s been over a month since I tackled that kind of distance. And I felt it too. It’s hard to blow yourself out in the morning only to have to go to work for 8 more hours when I get back to the store. I was a hurting unit the rest of the day Thursday.
But what a great ride. 6 bikes. 70 degrees and sunny the whole time. We had a tailwind heading out and at times was cruising at 23 to 25 mph pretty effortlessly. We did suffer for that on the way home but I know how to hide behind a wheel as good as anyone. A short 30 minute coffee stop about 3\4th of the way. Very nice. I hope to get a couple more of those before is starts to snow around here.
Then Friday was a great cross ride. Some woods. Some road. Some boardwalk. Another near 20 miles on great Friday morn. Then moving on to Saturday and yet another ride to the park before work. Back to the road bike and almost another 20 in the books. That’s almost 90 miles in the last three days all before work. Thats got to be a record for me.
Then on Sunday I grabbed the MTB for maybe the third or fourth time this summer. My woods riding is way down this year and I guess I’ll blame the weather a bit. My window for a MTB ride is small these days and if the trails are wet I’ll stay off. But Sunday they were good to go and I hit up our local city park for about a hour and a half. Was nice to get back in the woods for sure and I need to practice up for my upcoming Hayward weekend in less than three weeks so I hope to use this bike a bit more.
So that concludes a great weekend of riding bikes. Im here at the store pretty early today to get all my ordering done. There’s a lot to do here these days. And Im glad that I did get these rides in cuz I never know when the next ride will come.
I seem to have more time for typing later in the day than early morn. Yesterday I loaded up the Farley for some riding in the woods this morn as it had not rained in about 5 days and I assume the woods is dried out a bit. But once again my MTB riding was cut down as I awoke to thunder and rain at 6am. So I laid back down and decided to just take a walk when I woke.
It was wet and raining when I left home but when I got to the park it was all dry. Looking at the radar we had rain all around us but nothing on the south side and tons on the north side. So after a very short walk I just sat on a fav bench and stared at the lake for awhile.
A pretty slow morning with another ride not taken however tomorrow I have a pretty big ride planned. I’d like to do 50 miles before work so we will see how that goes. Looks like about 4 of us.
Bit of a late Monday post. And maybe due to a somewhat uneventful weekend.
Saturday I had the usual short ride to the park before work. It started raining\misting just as we left and we did get a bit wet. Just enough to call it a wet ride.
After work I brought the road bike home for a Sunday ride but that never happened. I had plans for a solo 20 miles or so but just could not find the motivation. I even got all my clothes out and layed on my bed ready to go. And thats as far as it went. Two naps later it was dinner time and I just put the clothes away. Feeling bad I did bring my ride gear to the store with me today and am considering riding home and back again tomorrow. Kind of a way to make the lazy Sunday not feel so lazy.
I did have a nice park visit this morning.
The weather this morning was amazing. Lower humidity and temps made this morning coffee visit very pleasant. I wish I could have stayed there longer but I was running late.
I hope to get in more miles than average this week. Mayber a longer ride Thursday morn. My current ride times have taken quite a hit of late but thats expected this time of year.
I do have some events waiting in the wings but its too early to comment on them. One is a trip to Hayward on Aug 19\20. And then just the next week I have a overnight bikepack to a park about 60 miles away on Aug 27\28. Again, too far into the future to think about but Im sure will come soon enough.
Cant believe its Friday already. The week goes by fast when you work a lot. Had some help on vacation this week so its been a blur…
I did get out for a short ride yesterday before the store opened. A nice 20 miles before it got too hot. Temps have been up and huge humidity.
I rode the BMC. I thought about the Crockett but was limited on time so I thought I would use the “fast” bike. I really like this bike and hope to ride it a bit more before its up for sale. Ive actually thought about parting it out. Its always great so sell a demo bike outright but when the price tag gets high then the number of available buyers plummets. I would consider selling the driveline, frame, wheels all separate. And while that opens up the sale to a bigger audience its also three times the work. I’ll think about it for awhile.
The new 2018 fat bikes are starting to hit the store.
Starting with the entry level Farely 5. Same price tag as last year but with a carbon fork and 1 by 11 drive. Its crazy how far these bikes have come in over just 5 years. This was a $2300 bike a few years ago. Now $1700. I got two in and one is already sold.
Today will be a busy day as I am alone in the store so I better open early and try to stay ahead of the game here. Im planning on a short ride before work tomorrow morn and will have some help with me so thats good. Next week the store is back to full strength and I can resume some longer rides in the morn.
Sunday I hope to ride something somewhere. Just not sure what.
