Time To Build

So its Thursday and I just did not have time to post much this week. Mondays post was a short afterthought in the afternoon. But today I have time.

Got in a ride both Tuesday and Wednesday morn hence the low post time. Both days good. Yesterday we cheated the weather for once. Rain all around us and when we returned from the two and a half hour ride it started to rain maybe two blocks from the store. Its nice to catch a weather break once in awhile with a the cold and rain of late. I think I’ve got a tick over 4 hours already this week so my 6 hour goal should be no problem although there is rain forecasted almost every day in the next 5 days.

This moring is raining but I did not plan a ride today anyway.

Here’s what’s new:

There sits my Farley EX. I have not even sat on that bike since the Birkie March 11th. It’s now a few days from May. I have yet to turn one wheel on dirt yet this spring. But that will change soon. I’ve been waiting for my 29+ rims (Raceface ARC) to come back in stock and I just got a email they shipped yesterday. Maybe here today. I’ve got tires, tape and Stans waiting and will get that wheelset worked up early next week. I see my first ride in the woods in my near future. But first it has to stop raining.

Then yesterday I get a email that my shifter\brakes have indeed shipped and that is the last piece downloadI need to put together my real BMC. I’ll clean up the Road Machine 2 and put it back on the floor with a discount (it s a 56) and get my Road Machine 1 up and running.

I can’t wait to get that one done. It’s going to be a tedious build with all the hydro and shift wires running thru the headtube. I’ll take my time for sure. Most likely well over a week before I get the time to finish it. But in less than two weeks I’ll be at full strength with the MTB and road bike up and running for the summer.

My next thought is another cross bike. I’ve got a lot of thoughts on that one but I will not even try to think about it until these two bikes are done. But I have eTap floating around for that bike. Or maybe since I was impressed with the 105 on the RM2 I’ve been riding I’ll go that route and make the bike easier to sell later.

Moving on. The store’s been busy since the Trek sale which went well. By Monday\Tuesday of next week I should have all the sale bikes done and gone. Then its time to move forward with other sales projects that I have been thinking about. But  before that maybe a little R and R. Planning a few days out of town in two weeks. Just a little mini vaca for maybe three days. Destination unknown. But I think it will be a bike free vaca. Hopefully get some batteries recharged.

I can’t believe its almost May.

Weekend Riding

I finally had my good camera in the car this morn. This guy looked pretty lonely out on the lake.  Hope he at least caught something.

I had my biggest week yet in the saddle. Ended up with 9 hours 26 minutes. And I can feel all of that this morn. Almost 5 hours on Sat\Sun. With Saturday having the hardest effort yet this year.

Here’s the bike with the new wheels on. A good wheelset sure does dress up a bike.

So I mentioned in the last post how I froze my ass off on Fridays ride. So Saturday I woke to 30 degrees and frost.

So after scraping my windshield I turned around and went back in the house to get my thermal stuff on. Boots too. No way I was going to freeze two days in a row.

Well, after we left the store, about 20 minutes into the ride it jumps to 55 degrees. And now Im grossly overdressed. And I suffered the rest of the ride. My feet were the worst. I could have wrung out my socks when I got back. Plus I worked on hanging with the fast guys. Always a split second from getting spit off the back but I did hang in longer than I thought I could. That was the hardest effort so far this spring and I was almost seeing stars when we got back to the store. Legs were going to be sore for sure.

And they were. So sore I could not sleep. I should have just gotten out of bed and took some ibuprofen but I did not. So I just laid there and took it like a man. There was a longer ride called out for Sunday and I knew I could not ride quite that long but I decided to start with them, then flippit home at some point.

Sunday ride was quite the opposite as far as temp. The ride started out very nice at near 60 degrees. The only extra clothing I had was arm warmers and it felt good. We headed south into a slight headwind that I knew would help me heading home solo.

After about 20 miles I called it a day and turned back, the others kept going. No more than a few miles solo I get a flat front. And not the leaking kind. It blew and went down in 15 seconds. I was going maybe 17mph and almost went down. I had all the fix’ins I needed so I just pulled over and changed the tube no problem. But during the change the winds switched a complete 180.. and temps plummeted over 20 degrees. On the news later that nite they said it dropped 22 degrees in 15 minutes.

And once again, I froze my ass off. I had about 15 miles to go home yet and I was in some pain. My toes got numb. Winds now in my face at 20mph. The four of us rode out at 17mph and now I was freezing and heading home at 8 mph. It was a epic ride back. One that tests one mental toughness.

I almost thought about calling someone. But I didnt. And I suffered all the back to the store again. Threw bike bike in the store, drove home and shivered under a blanket for a few hours. I just could not get warm.

I have yet to find out what the other guys did or how far they went. Anyway, Im off the bike until Wednesday, but it looks like rain then….

Better get to work.

Christmas in April

Its 3pm already on this Friday. Another late post due to a busy day and a bike ride.  Got another 20+ bike shipment this morn and they are all sold bikes so its start early and work late until they are gone. I did get out for a ride this morn but once again froze my ass off at 39 degrees. I just suck at dressing myself.

Yesterday was a whirlwind too and even with the bikes arriving Im still behind in all my bike shop duties before they even got here.

All the Zipp stuff came. Along with my new Sidi shoes so it was like Christmas for me. I already have a set of 404’s on the bike Im riding. And those wheels slated to hit my build when all the parts get here for that. I ever treated myself to a Dura Ace cassette….

Here’s yesterday in pictures….

Crazy day yesterday and today too. I think I will be able to do the entire ride tomorrow morn. Still, it will be in the high 30’s at ride time. Even calling for some frost tonite.

With the ride this morning I only need a hour\45 minutes to hit 6 hours this week. So this is the third week in a row I’ve hit my goal. Soon.. starting in May the goal will increase to 8 hours per week. Then 10 and some point. Depends on the weather…

So I better get back to work. Have a great weekend.

Bad Ride\Good Ride

So since I switched my ride to Tues\Thurs things have not gone so well. Yesterday I headed out solo into a cold head wind. I was underdressed and freezing my ass off. Just 20 minutes into the ride I had a mental breakdown and just wanted to quit so I flipped it. But not before I stopped and just sat by the lake, where I took the pic above. I took some time to settle myself down a bit and started the slow roll back to the store.

I just did not want to be on the bike in the first place but felt obligated to because it was a Tuesday. I did manage to get one hour on the clock after a small detour. It was better than nothing but not by much.

Its tough to ride and get sunburned one day, the freeze the next. Im not that good at clothing levels so I miss from time to time and Tuesday I missed.

However today it was 10 degrees warmer out and I wore the exact same thing as yesterday and was just fine. Being Wednesday I had a buddy to ride with too and since he is available on Wednesdays I am back to Long Ride Wednesdays. I’ll just have to adjust the schedule in the store. Wednesday just works better for others so I’ll do that so I have someone to ride with.

Today I felt much better on the bike and we did a bit of an extended route. About a hour and 45 minutes. Which puts me at 2 hours 45 minutes heading into Thursday. Way ahead of schedule compared to the last two weeks…  And I even thru in a couple intervals today.

Things are happening fast for my RM 1 build. My Zipp wheels shipped today and I just got the email that the shift levers I’ve been waiting for are in too and will ship this week. I still need to measure and order the wires. That will be next. This bike will be done for sure in 10 days….  I can’t wait. I’ll post stuff as it happens.

Just waiting on brown Santa to arrive with the stuff…..
