Its a pretty good morning to hang out in the park w\coffee. Always my favorite time of the day. So let’s get down to it.
If I had to pick a Chequamegon to miss it would have been this one. Just a crappy, misty, muddy day on the bike. My first Fat Tire 40 was a muddy one. Took me 5 and 1\2 hours. I remember blasting down a hill on the Birkie trail, wiping out on the bottom into a mud hole. I put my hands out in front of me and they stuck on the mud. Pulled out my hands and both gloves stayed in the mud hole. This was under about 6 inches of water and I did not find them again. I didnt look that long as I was laying in 6 inches of water, in the mud, in the middle of the Birkie trail. Good times.
So thats kinda OK that I missed it.
On to the Trek CXC. Of course I could not be there but Trek had it streaming live right off their website and I gatta say the coverage was pretty good. I watched the Mens\Womens both days. The announcing was kinda crappy on Saturday but got better on Sunday. A lot of the pro riders chose to race Sunday only and if I did go it would have been Saturday. That would have kinda pissed me off. But I didnt miss it and watched from the comforts of my own home. Or on Sunday actually from my moms in Depere. And Saturday from the store.
Sunday morn before I left town to go to my moms I put in a good hour on my EX. Was a very nice solo ride as I just put in the earbuds and cranked the music and strolled around the trails. Very enjoyable. Perfect MTB weather.
I stopped at the old raft I used in my cross race. Which would have been a week or so ago. I dont think I mentioned that I ditched it. I just wanted to slow down my life a bit so this kind of thing had to go. I did have fun doing it for 6 years. And I was feeling a bit sentimental sitting there and looking at it. I might have cried a little.
I do miss it but Im pretty sure Im completely done with that stuff. In a few weeks the local MTB race will be in the same park and for the same reasons I backed out of anything involving that also. My ride time is just too important to me and Im not getting any younger.
Today is also the first day of “fall hours” here in store. The stores hours dont change but I now have help here only about half the time. And that will change again in Oct to only about 25% of the time. It’s just that time of year. The summer went so fast. When you get old the days are long but the years are short.
So that was my weekend. Almost perfect riding weather so I hope you got out…
