Trying to ride this more. File foto

So….  Tuesday a few of us got in a pretty good road ride. Almost 30 miles in after work. I felt good I think. Until the skies opened up. Two huge downpours about 10 minutes long and 10 minutes apartt. It got so dark I was concerned that I had no light. And that was at about 6pm. But…. even then it was better than no ride at all. We knew the rain was coming and I was surprised it did not come sooner. I have some bike maintenance to do….

Wednesday morn I got in another ride. I put my completely wet shoes under a fan all night and they were dry by morn. I had plans for at least 30 more miles, maybe 50. But it was cut down to 25 due to the fact I had to cut my grass and could not see another time window to do so. So grass cutting cut into my ride time. And thats fine. Get it done now to ride more later.

I was happy to get some quiet time to get all my tax stuff done. Thats a load off my mind.

And all a full day early. Thats so not me.

And this morn (Thurs
day) I had plans to grab the 9zero7 (my only bike for woods) and have another hour and a half before the store opened. Then, I forgot my accountant is coming tomorrow and Im
not even close to being ready so I deciced to hit the books and get that done. And then I remembered I needed to deliver a bunch of rental bikes to a local resort and could not hit the books until that was done. So then I realized
that it was no ride for me this morn. Maybe later I’ll take a nooner.

I have not been taking a lot of pictures of late. No real reason. Ive got a million pics of the lake so I can just see what kind of day it is out side and just match one up.

Im trying not to post about Marquette everyday. Still looking into my itinerary for the few days. And thats about it. Need to get going on accountant stuff.

I hate accountant stuff.

Things On My Mind

Things on my mind today:download

Its a business tax month. By the end of this month a business needs to turn in all tax forms, hopefully paid, for the second quarter. So like any small business I wait until the last minute. It takes maybe 5 hours of desk time total and it looks like I’ll have things done one day ahead of time. Thats pretty early for me.

I now have set my help at the store for my trip to O2S in about a week. I have mixed feeling on those days. I need the time away for sure but my bike fitness is not good, so a slower race time is pretty much a given. If its way slower I might be a little bummed out. A little slower is acceptable but the way I feel right now might be a pending disaster. I’ll try and ride as much as I can until then (11 days).

Also, Im going up alone again. Looks like I’ll be leaving Thursday around noon. I did that last year and it also was a disaster.

I was pretty bored. I really just drove up, raced and drove home. This year Im planning ahead to find things to do to stay busy. Maybe take a drive up to the Soo Locks to watch some ships pass thru. Might head to a trail system Ive heard about. Brunos Run is near Munising. Maybe hit that up on Friday morning, ride to course a bit Friday aft, race Saturday and head for the Locks after. Thats sounds pretty good to me. I might even take the road bike up. So many great MTB trails up there everyone forgets the road riding is great also. Beautiful roads up against Lake Superior. Or maybe just grab a book and relax somewhere.

I dont get out much and when I do I build it up in my head for weeks before to unachievable proportions. I’ll try not to do that this time.

Not Much

Not a lot to talk about his weekend. Sadly no rides at all. Just one of those weekend where you saw pretty much everyone else outside on a bike and you were stuck inside. And with the lack of movement comes a slow start to the day 20140726_191749[1]for me.

This is the only pic I took this weekend. This boat was for sure over a million bucks. Every once in while these type of yachts come down from Chicago to stay in town a few days.

This one has been here before. Its been here maybe 4 days now just down from the store.

As days go by my thoughts turn twords the race in less than two weeks. Crazy how fast that has come. Once again I have no set help for the store that weekend but hope to do so in the next day or so. As much as I dont want to I will close Sunday if I have to.

Its ordering day so I better go. My desk looks like a disaster.

I cant believe its Friday already. I cant believe next week is  August. I cant believe I dont have a MTB heading into that season(sounding like a broken record).

I cant believe how many hours Ive put in the store so far this summer.

I cant believe its only two weeks to O2S. The start of said MTB season. At least for me. Im so looking forward to that. I think. I might say that a lot in the next few weeks.

I cant believe how fast Ive blown off summer in my mind. Im already looking forward to fall. Cooler temps? Is that possible? Will the leaves turn earlier?

I cant believe Ive started planning for my cross race already. 6 weeks. Next week I’ll submit to USA Cycling for permits and insurance. Also online registration.

2 sets of 2

Alright, done with that theme.

Yesterday I had a “fun” sale. Pair of identical twins bought a pair of identical bikes. It was funny as I only had to ask one of them what they wanted and just ordered two of that.

Some sales are fun, some are not so much.

I’ll compare this to a sale a month ago when a teen came in for a MTB and got a pretty nice Felt 29er. His dad just did not want to be there. He paid with a frown and a bad attitude. The kid was pumped but dad looked at me like this was all my fault. “This thing better last or we’ll be back” was his parting statement. All I could do was smile and assure him it was a good bike. That was not fun. But a kid got a nice bike so its all good.

Bikes are going out the door everyday now and that wont last much longer. In fact, The time is almost here where you start drawing down inventory. You can see how easy it is for me to think so far ahead as far as seasons. Sometimes its such a conflict of interest in my mind. Letting go of a season that has just started. Its not easy.

But all those situations is just part of the bike retail experience that Im really only five years into and still learning everyday.

My riding this weekend will be limited. Im alone here all weekend so I should not ride tomorrow morn to try and stay ahead of the game and get things in order earlier than normal. I should anyway. Maybe I’ll sneak in an hour. And maybe another hour Sunday morn. Sunday aft as soon as I close Im headed to GreenBay for a visit with my Mom. So no riding then.

But with the upcoming race I need to get at least 10 hours a week for the next two weeks. Thats minimum. I have not been feeling very fast on the bike. Hope that changes soon.

Have a good weekend.
