Spring Fever Without Spring

Spring is but only a thought

Good news! I hit the trainer today for the fourth time in 5 days. Bad news. I could only last 24 minutes before my mind blew up. But anything is better than nothing I guess.

This morn is once again below zero for temp. Crazy. As I drove thru the park this morn I noticed more than one person or couples out walking. At -5 degrees.

I think people are just getting fed up with the temps and getting outside before they go crazy. I think very soon people will come in the store looking at bikes not that they want to get out and ride right now, but want to do something that feels like they are moving past this winter. People have been so couped up. When the first 50 degree day hits its going to be like a explosion here in the store. All the pent up cabin fever will drive people out without even thinking about it. I need to prepare. Its mentally hard to prepare for spring when its -5 outside.

That theory is also tested with the winter sports. The trails are in great shape for skiing. And I think one could ski here maybe into April with the huge base on the trails. But no one cares anymore. No more rental ski’s going out. None. People are just fed up. Including me. I want to put the stores ski’s away. Soon.

Im planning a ride in the morn. Depending how cold it is. Plan B will be some skiing. But two hours on the bike is first choice. Sunday I have a WCA cross race directors meeting and have to leave around noon. So Maybe a little ride before. I have not looked at the temps those mornings but will do so soon.

Come Monday, all I can think about will be the pending trip to Hayward. I’ll  be off my game at the store a few days before I leave. Im pretty pumped to get up there. Im sure you will hear about it.

Have a good weekend.

Today marks my third day in a row on the trainer. Just under an hour today but the third day in a row non the less. Never before have I done such a thing. Uncharted territory. But much needed. I just cant wait any longer.

I always say how fast you can lose some fitness but also how fast it can come back.  I just feel better in the saddle today. Maybe not any faster but just more comfortable.

I hope that continues. I’ll check on my weight on Friday.

Still waiting on getting pumped for Fatbike Birkie. Very soon. But its getting tougher every day when stuff like this comes out. Our hotel is right where the trail ride starts from on Sunday. Im leaving a week from tomorrow so I’ll wait about 24 more hours before that event consumes me.

Its -5 this morn. Just three days from March. Ive said way too many times that  its just a few weeks away before the weather breaks. I dont say that anymore. Its crazy how Im still selling winter stuff and have some bike traffic trickle in at the same time. Today I have some ski’s to bind up and a new bike to build.  Kinda nice but still…. I want winter to stop. Please. Thanks.

Strange Pics

Just a quick collection of pics I took either on a ride or at the store or whatever.

Pic 1: Found that guy on a ride and he hung on to my bar for about 10 minutes. Strangely enough, see pic 3.

Pic 2: Some store had this guy as a promotion. He spent more time with us than the store he was hired to promote.

Pic 3: This contraption was at Crossvegas. I forgot what product it was from. Never saw it again anywhere. But it was big. Mounted on a old army truck. Strangely enough, see pic 1.

Pic 4: Stuff you see riding snowmobile trails in northern Wisconsin in the summer.

I did hit the trainer two days in a row now. First time that happened in many years. And trust me, only because I have to.

You know its time to get off the trainer when you look at the clock four times in the same minute.

Have a great day.

Back to Cold.

Another quality weekend if I dont say so. Along with Saturdays fatbike ride was another followed up on Sunday with a couple others. Almost two hours in the woods with temps in the double digits…

The trails are actually great for riding besides a bit of ice. The thaw\freeze late last week helped firm up all the hiking\snowshoe trails and most are easy to ride. No float needed. Just a bite bumpy with all the footprints. But lower your pressure and that smoothed it out pretty well.

The 9zero7 has two rides on it now and my feelings have not changed. Its a great riding bike. Light and agile. Very fun to ride. But I posted on that Saturday.

Today as I walked onto the beach this morn it was 6 degrees. In a day or two it will be negative. I really thought we were past that stuff but I guess one more shot before winter leaves. Whatever.

If this was December I would for sure deal with it. But its March in a few days and Im done. I think Ive had more single digit rides this winter than the last 5 combined. Its not that Im getting soft, its just being so done with it. An hour on the trainer this morn. Thats twice now. And more to come I think.

Temps this week are again up to 30 degrees below normal. So its sit on the trainer and wait for at least the teens to come back. Not for 4 days or so.

In less than two weeks Im headed up to Hayward. You know… that place I really like. Im trying not to get too exited too soon cuz that makes the last few day feel like a month. So it s low key for now.

Other than  that a typical Monday.

Paperwork and such. All kinds of fun stuff.
